Community Minibus

The Olney Town Council Community Transport service was setup help reduce social isolation. We were told of residents who would love to come to the Thursday Lunch Club for example but are unable to walk far enough to get to there, the minibus will be able to help these people get access to a good nutritious lunch and meet friends.

We have now added another route on a Monday and would love to be able to have it run all day and every day, but we do rely on a wonderful band of volunteer drivers and would need many more to be able to offer this level of service.

If you would like to become a volunteer driver, you only need to be over 25 and have a valid, clean driving licence. If you could spare an hour or so, as little or as often as you like, we would love to hear from you. It is a lovely minibus, just 8 passenger seats, not much bigger than a 4x4, it’s electric and very easy to drive. The more drivers we have, the more we can offer.

Bought with grant funds from the S106 volunteer section, there will be little ongoing costs to the town, with hopefully, massive positive implications.

We do have restrictions; we are not a taxi service or a bus that would need to be licenced, and insured in a completely different way, drivers cannot be paid, and we cannot offer the service outside of the town. Although, if proven successful and there is a demand, we could look at maybe an additional vehicle.

We would like to be able to link the new and old parts of town, the traditional market and the new supermarkets, encouraging residents to get involved with all the events that happen in town.
